We often talk about the crops we want to grow successfully in our vegetable garden: Should we water the tomatoes? When should we plant the beans? How can we protect the lettuce? Yet we often forget the most important element: the soil. It’s what nourishes plants, supports incredible biodiversity, and determines the health of our crops. But do we really know what it’s made of? How does it work? And how can we tell if it’s healthy? During this workshop, you’ll conduct simple experiments—easy to do at home—to discover the composition of your soil and identify its main characteristics. You’ll leave with a soil health journal to help you get to know your soil better and replicate these experiments at home. Hosted by the Carrioles Vertes association. Open to the public, ages 6 and up.
