Self-taught, Alain PEYROU is a portrait artist at heart and has been an amateur painter since 1984. I have balanced my passion for painting with my day job. I’ve been drawing since childhood. One day, a painter looked at my drawings and told me, “You have to paint—you’ll have a blast.” I bought some brushes and became “someone else”—that was in 1984. When the brush is in your hand, you ask yourself, “And now?” You have to think about what you love most—and I am a feminist. A feminist and a portrait artist—the solution came quickly: a portrait of a woman whose model appears in a book titled "La femme dans le monde"—a photo interspersed with text that I hastened to replace with an image. It was my first painting; it’s titled “Black Beauty”—I’ll never part with it! It’s right here.
