Balade : Le vallon d’Arraio, découverte du patrimoine naturel et culturel

These outings offer the chance to explore the town’s natural areas, flora, and fauna. One of the goals is to highlight the town’s natural heritage by following all or part of the loops in the Local Hiking Plan. Starting from the village of Ascain, this pleasant trail invites you to explore a wild valley carvedby the Arraioko Erreka stream, between the Bizkarzun and Esnaur hills. The presence of caves provides an opportunity to learn about the laminak and other figures from Basque mythology. The route passes two redoubts, remnants of the turbulent history of the Napoleonic Wars. On the way back, the trail winds through several pine forests home to various species of russula mushrooms, for which fall is the prime season.
