Gau Beltza, la nuit noire

Gau Beltza is an ancient tradition in Basque mythology linked to the ancient beliefs of the Basque Country. As the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer, and darkness takes hold of the light, various rituals were practiced throughout Europe, including in the Basque Country, around October 31. This tradition symbolizes the natural transition between life and death, the end of the year, the conclusion of the harvest, and a tribute to those who have passed away.
