In *Pour commencer encore*, Georges Didi-Huberman reflects on Paul Celan’s invitation: “Pass… pass…” To pass, he writes, is “to take a step,” to make one’s way, to follow one’s own “lines of drift” or of desire, and, to do so, to cross the lines of power. An invitation to move, but also to break free from assigned trajectories. A thought that finds a particular echo in the work of Lou Chavepayre. Constraints are neither circumvented nor erased: they contribute to the very forms her work takes, without ever determining its direction. A hand that eludes what is asked of it, an eye that draws a line where the hand can no longer—from these displaced gesturesgives rise to a space where a trajectory is invented that belongs only to her.
