Julius Rodriguez
Julius Rodriguez Julius Rodriguez (piano) Born in White Plains (New York) in 1998 and currently based in Los Angeles, Julius Rodriguez pianist, drummer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, has become one of the most vibrant figures of the new generation of American jazz. Trained at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege and later at the Juilliard School, his precocious talent led him to play in New York clubs and to join professional bands where his versatility immediately stood out. A frontier artist by nature, his language unites contemporary jazz, gospel, rhythm & blues, hip hop and electronica with surprising naturalness, always projecting his own identity. This stylistic breadth has allowed him to collaborate with such diverse figures as Wynton Marsalis, A$AP Rocky, Kassa Overall, Meshell Ndegeocello, Roy Hargrove and Carmen Lundy, whom he will also accompany at the 61st Jazzaldia (Teatro Victoria Eugenia, 22 July, 18:00h). His discography reflects an open, dynamic and open-minded approach that shuns labels. Julius understands jazz as a space in which the most daring improvisation, the urban pulse, pop sensibility and the spirituality of gospel coexist. On stage, the young American pianist displays an intense and contagious energy, a spontaneity that facilitates the connection with the audience and a creativity that seems to have no end. Undoubtedly a musician to keep an eye on.
