Pablo Mainetti (bandoneon), Matías Feigin (piano), Serdar Geldymuradov (violin), Armando de La Vega (guitar), Cristian Basto (double bass). For more than twenty-five years, the Astor Piazzolla Quintet has been guarding and honouring the legacy of the revolutionary bandoneonist and composer Astor Piazzolla. Throughout these three decades the quintet has toured the United States, Latin America, Europe, Australia and Asia, receiving unanimous critical acclaim and numerous prestigious awards. Among them are two Latin Grammy Awards for Best Tango Album (2019 and 2023), which have consolidated its international projection and prestige. The quintet is made up of five virtuoso soloists, all of them with recognised careers and deeply committed to Piazzolla's aesthetics. Under the musical direction of Julián Vat, the Quinteto Astor Piazzolla keeps alive a fundamental repertoire, preserving the essence of Piazzolla's transformation of tango. The quintet revitalises both the classics and Piazzolla's lesser-travelled pieces, with a fresh spirit that makes his music seem to spring directly from the composer's thoughts. In 1960, Astor Piazzolla created his original quintet, establishing a line-up that would prove decisive in the development of Nuevo Tango, the genre he promoted throughout that decade and which left an indelible mark on the history of 20th century music: bandoneon, violin, electric guitar, piano and double bass. The musicians who accompanied Piazzolla were exceptional performers, valued by the composer himself for their ability to reinterpret and enrich his music with their own voice. During the seventies, his move to Europe caused a pause in the activity of the quintet, which reconvened in 1978 with a new line-up, accompanying him until 1988. This period coincided with his international consecration and with a repertoire that combined the New Tango of the sixties with new compositions that would give rise to authentic masterpieces. The experience is unique: a concert in which the academic work and the popular repertoire of Piazzolla coexist and dialogue, covering different moments of creativity, intensity and passion; connecting past and present and keeping alive the essence of one of the great musical creators of the 20th century.
