Nils Petter Molvær - KHMER Nils Petter Molvær (trumpet). Eivind Aarset (guitar), Jan Bang (live sampling), DJ Strangefruit (DJ), Audun Erlien (bass), Rune Arnesen (drums), Per Lindvall (drums), Sven Persson (sound design), Tord Knudsen (lighting design) Essential figure of contemporary European Jazz, Nils Petter Molvær has woven, since the nineties, a language of his own where the trumpet breathes between electronics, improvisation and sound exploration. He comes to the 61st Jazzaldia to offer us his marvellous reinterpretation of his debut album: Khmer (1998). A regular collaborator of the great names of Scandinavian jazz, Molvaer is also one of the most sought-after artists internationally. His music has broadened the jazz horizons of the last decades and has marked an entire generation. The year 2023 marked the 25th anniversary of Khmer a revolutionary album that was a milestone and which opened up a new territory where jazz dialogued with trip-hop, drum'n'bass, ambient, techno, industrial music and electronica. Strong rhythms, pulsating grooves and an unmistakable trumpet full of intensity and warmth were the main ingredients of an album that remains a foundational work of contemporary Norwegian Jazz. To commemorate the anniversary Molvaer and his exceptional musicians decided to bring that album back to the stage, revisiting and updating what was recorded 25 years ago to illuminate it from the present. One of those concerts was recorded and released in 2025: Khemer (Live in Bergen). Khmer is as challenging and magnetic as it was originally, a hypnotic journey that moves between intensity, beauty and electronic vibration. A bridge between generations and genres, a magical work that continues to inspire, always alive and always new. A jewel in the history of Norwegian Jazz that will take us to unexplored, beautiful and vibrant territories.
