Exposition au musée historique : Lumières du Sud

To mark the centenary of Joseph Saint-Germier?s death, Lumières du Sud presents the first retrospective devoted to this artist from Toulouse. Trained in Paris by Alexandre Cabanel and Léon Bonnat, Saint-Germier enjoyed success from the end of the 19th century, thanks to his participation in the Salon and his distinction at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. His work, somewhere between academic tradition and modernity, is characterized by luminous painting inspired by his travels in Europe and North Africa. The exhibition highlights his views of Venice, famous for their play of light and vibrant atmospheres, as well as his depictions of the South of France and the Basque Country. Through a selection of major works, Lumières du Sud invites us to rediscover a painter who was renowned during his lifetime, but who remains little-known today.
