Is there a common thread between Julia Ratsimandresy and Nicolas Jauneau—mother and son, each an artist in their own world—even though, on the surface, everything seems to set them apart? She works with scraps of paper—the physical remnants that children leave behind in the studio. He works with digital scraps—those fragments of images that circulate, distort, and get recycled online. And yet, both artists do the same thing: they salvage what was destined to disappear and give it a form that endures. For her, a piece of cardboard becomes a world encased under a glass dome. For him, a viral image becomes a painting, a sculpture, an object that resists the endless scrolling of screens. In both cases, an act of rescue. In both cases, a humble or ephemeral material is transformed by the attention paid to it.
